Building on the success of North Somerset Council’s Green Business Grants programme, applications are now open (Wednesday 24 September) for eligible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), sole traders, charities, and Community Interest Companies (CICs) to apply for a free carbon survey.

Delivered in partnership with Future Leap, the surveys will help organisations understand their carbon footprint and identify practical steps to reduce energy use and cut costs.

Benefits of a carbon survey include:

  • lower energy bills by tackling inefficiencies
  • tailored recommendations to reduce emissions
  • strengthened eligibility for future sustainability funding
  • improved reputation with environmentally conscious customers and clients.

Please note that applications are for the survey only and will not include any grant funding.

Applications are open now and close on Friday 31 October 2025.

Organisations that meet the eligibility criteria can register their interest by completing a short online form.

Successful applicants will be contacted after the deadline to arrange their survey with Future Leap.

Cllr Annemieke Waite, Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment at North Somerset Council, said: "We know that many local organisations want to cut their energy bills and play their part in tackling climate change, but it can be hard to know where to start. These free carbon surveys are the practical first step to saving money and reducing emissions.”

Cllr Mark Canniford, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places and Service Transformation at North Somerset Council, said: "We want to support our local economy to grow sustainably. These free carbon surveys will identify ways to cut costs, but also play a part in meeting the growing demand for greener practices.”
