North Somerset Council, in partnership with Quay Research, has launched a new survey to better understand the strengths, challenges, and future needs of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.

The project aims to gather insights from organisations of all sizes to build a clear picture of what a strong, sustainable, and effective voluntary sector looks like in North Somerset. This survey is part of North Somerset LEADS (learn, engage, adapt, develop, strengthen), looking at how the voluntary sector and the council can work together more effectively.

Participants who choose to leave their email address will be entered into a prize draw, with one organisation winning a £200 cash donation and three additional organisations receiving £50 each.

Eligible participants include anyone working within a voluntary organisation, community group, social enterprise, or relevant local authority role in North Somerset. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Cllr Mark Canniford, Cabinet Member for the Economy at North Somerset Council, said: “By hearing from as many VCSE organisations as possible, we can develop practical, evidence-based recommendations that genuinely reflect the sector’s needs. A strong and thriving VCSE community is essential in these challenging financial times to supporting residents and delivering vital services across North Somerset. This research will help us understand both the opportunities and the challenges facing the sector, and inform a clear action plan for the future.”

Professor Catherine Leyshon, Director at Quay Research, said: "Voluntary and community organisations play a critical role in supporting individuals and communities in North Somerset, but the vital work that they do is not always clearly understood. The North Somerset LEADS (Learn, Engage, Adapt, Develop, Strengthen) explores how the voluntary sector and the council can work together to achieve even more by building an effective and sustainable partnership. The voluntary sector in North Somerset is large and diverse, and we’d like as many organisations as possible to take our survey so that their insights can inform the practical solutions we are developing.”

Survey responses will be analysed by Quay Research, and a findings and action report published. This project is funded by North Somerset Council’s allocation of the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
