2,453 secondary school applications were received in total for North Somerset schools for the academic year ahead, and of these 94.66 per cent (2,322 students) were offered a place at their first-choice school.
A further 4.28 per cent (105 students) were offered their second preference, while 0.29 per cent (7 students) were offered their third-preference school.
Only 19 students out of 2,453 were offered a place at a school outside of their first three preferences.
Parents who applied for places online received their outcome by email today. Those who applied using printed forms also received their offer by email today.
Councillor Catherine Gibbons, North Somerset Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Families and Lifelong Learning, said: “It’s great to see that almost all our North Somerset young people were offered a place at one of their top three choices of secondary schools. I wish them all the very best as they embark on the next exciting chapter in their education.
“I’d also like to thank our council officers and our schools for all their hard work in making this possible. It’s an enormous task processing thousands of applications and trying to match as many children as possible with their preferred schools. I’m pleased so many were offered a secondary school which was one of their preferred choices with 95 per cent receiving their first choice.”
“For any parent or carer who will be considering next year’s secondary school applications, I encourage you to submit three preferences – including your local school – to help make the process quicker, easier and more successful.”
Any parents and carers of children who were not offered one of their top three secondary school preferences has the option to appeal the decision.

Parents who have applied for places for children starting school in September 2026 or moving from Infant to Junior or First to Middle school, will receive their outcomes in April.
