Autism Champions network

Enhanced Provision now runs a free, termly Autism Champions’ Network for North Somerset schools. This is done in partnership with Ben Robson of the North Somerset Parent Carers Working Together (NSPCWT).

Schools are invited to nominate up to two champions.

These champions will:

  • advocate for autistic students in settings
  • disseminate good autism practice and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to school colleagues and;
  • work closely to support parents and carers of autistic pupils.

As of August 2025, 45 schools are involved with over 70 champions attending the network.

Six sessions are held across the year at a Weston-super-Mare venue. At these sessions, champions will meet to access autism-themed CPD opportunities, network with fellow Champions and share good practice, resources and approaches. They will also receive a pin badge to wear proudly in school.

Requirements

The network is free to champions. The whole school staff teams will need to have accessed the Autism Education Trust (AET) ‘Making Sense of Autism’ training within the last three years.

Autism Champions are also expected to come along to the half-day AET ‘Good Autism Practice’ training which has a small cost.
